Astilleros Freire will build a vessel to support divers for the Spanish Navy.

The Astilleros Freire shipyard has signed its first contract with the Spanish Navy’s Logistic Support Command to construct a new diver support vessel.

The latest generation ship is part of the modernization and renewal process of the Spanish Navy’s auxiliary forces, aimed at enhancing submarine intervention capabilities. He will be assigned to the Military Diving School (EMB).

The ship will allow the Spanish Navy to strengthen its mandatory reference role in this field at national and international levels.

The unit will feature environmentally friendly technologies to improve fuel consumption and reduce polluting emissions. It will be 31.7 meters long, 9 meters wide, and range up to 500 nautical miles. Its design will accommodate up to 30 crew members to optimize the use of space and resources on board.

In addition, it will be equipped with advanced technologies such as side-scan sonar, autonomous vehicles (AV), and remotely operated vehicles (ROV) capable of detecting depths up to 900 meters. Delivery is expected in the second quarter of 2026.

The Freire Shipbuilding Company was founded in 1895. Starting in the early 1960s with the construction of steel-hulled vessels, Freire has built more than 280 steel vessels for more than 25 countries.

Currently, the shipyard is dedicated to constructing and repairing high-tech steel vessels up to 155 meters long, including oceanographic research vessels, fishing vessels, megayachts, offshore support vessels, and military patrol vessels.
