Two dead, four missing after oil service barge capsized in western Venezuela.

A service barge used to maintain oil wells sank in Lake Maracaibo in Zulia state in western Venezuela, killing at least two people and leaving four missing, Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA said on Thursday.

In a statement, the company explained that the accident occurred due to “adverse weather conditions that affected the area at the time of the accident” and identified the barge named “Chantase G” as belonging to SOSCA, which currently provides oil well maintenance services.

The company said that “search and rescue operations are continuing in cooperation with public security agencies,” adding that PDVSA’s High Investigative Committee will investigate the case to clarify the cause of the accident and provide support to the families of the victims.

The state expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased.
