Amoji provides proven, scalable, and efficient ammonia solutions for energy production. To officially welcome NH3 Kraken to the water, a traditional maritime renaming ceremony was held.

The world’s first carbon-neutral ammonia-powered vessel is now one step closer to demonstration.

The historic tugboat NH3 Kraken, originally built in 1957, is scheduled to complete its maiden voyage on a tributary of the Hudson River in late summer. Additionally, it has passed through several owners and has been known by several names.

“Today’s ceremony marks an important moment as we move one step closer to making maritime history and transforming one of the world’s oldest industries,” said Seunghoon Woo, CEO of Amoji. The modernization of NH3 Kraken is nearly complete. We will soon celebrate not only the validation of our patented technology on the vessel. Also the beginning of a new era. “This move provides us with a great opportunity to build a greener future for generations to come.

NH3 Kraken will demonstrate how ammonia can be safely used as a primary fuel in new build and retrofit vessels.

The vessel is named after Amoji’s innovative ammonia “cracking” technology. This technology converts liquid ammonia (NH3) into its basic elements, hydrogen and nitrogen. Moreover, the hydrogen is then fed into a fuel cell to produce high-speed, carbon-free electricity.

However, Amoji is focusing this new clean technology on hard-to-scale industries such as shipping and power generation.
