Israeli Strikes Destroy Hezbollah’s Main Naval Base In Beirut
The Israeli military announced that Israeli aircraft launched a massive airstrike on Hezbollah’s main naval base near Beirut overnight.
The strike was intended to weaken Hezbollah’s naval capabilities by destroying key assets such as the base’s headquarters, ammunition depots and speedboats.
The Israeli military said the base’s naval forces are specifically designed to attack Israeli naval ships and important naval facilities. Before the airstrike, residents were warned to leave the area for safety.
Hezbollah is known for its coastal defence and guerrilla-style operations, which focus on anti-ship operations rather than naval warfare. The Iranian-backed group reportedly develops or purchases unmanned underwater vehicles for covert operations.
In addition, Hezbollah has launched drone attacks on Israel’s offshore natural gas reserves.
Following the Hamas attack on October 7, Hezbollah has stepped up its military operations, launching missiles and drones into northern Israel every day.
According to a government estimate released on September 29, the ongoing conflict has forced more than 68,000 residents in northern Israel to flee their homes.
Hezbollah officials warned that they would continue their attacks to prevent Israelis from returning home, killing 59 people.
The Israeli army’s night operations extended beyond the naval base, targeting weapons depots and command centers, some of which are located underground.
The Israeli army also attacked three command centers associated with Hezbollah’s air operations, known as “Unit 127,” which is responsible for drone attacks against Israel.
Despite UN Security Council Resolution 1701 banning Hezbollah from operating in southern Lebanon, it has maintained and expanded its military presence, exacerbating the situation in the region.
