Construction of the MPV 4916 is due to start early next year at the Albwardi Damen shipyard in Sharjah, with delivery expected in 2027.
Dutch shipbuilder Damen Shipyards Group has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with tugboat and workboat company Herman Sr. to build a new multi-purpose vessel (MPV) 4916.
The MPV 4916 will be the first in a series designed to combine the strengths of Damen’s Shoalbuster and Multi Cat series vessels.
Construction of the MPV 4916 is scheduled to start early next year at the Albwardy Damen shipyard in Sharjah, Middle East, with delivery expected in 2027.
The vessel’s design allows for multiple positioning methods, including standoffs, four-point mooring, DP2, and shore, ensuring stability in deep and shallow waters.
The vessel’s 16m beam provides a stable platform for a wide range of equipment supported by the wide deck.
Designed to handle complex operations, the vessel is equipped with a hydraulic A-frame, two articulated cranes, and a stern crane with active winches and lift compensation. It can accommodate up to 34 people.

The vessel is SPS code certified and fully compliant with MLC2006 standards, ensuring safety. It also has the COMF-3 notation for low noise and vibration levels.
Leon Vignekam, Commercial Director at Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld, said: “It is a pleasure to work with Herman Sr again. Our two companies have a long history of fruitful collaboration and we are delighted to embark on this latest adventure together.”
The MPV 4916’s flexibility enables it to perform various missions, from cargo transport to maintenance tasks in the marine energy sector.
Supports diving operations, pipeline work, and cable maintenance and repair. With a 14-meter swivel, you can lay cables in inaccessible areas to larger vessels and even lay cables to shore via beaches.
Initially powered by a diesel-electric propulsion system, the vessel can be converted to a fully electric propulsion system and retrofitted and upgraded to dual-fuel methanol engines as the technology matures.
The vessel is also equipped with the Damen Marine NOX reduction system and is IMO Tier III compliant.
“As a family business, we have a long-term vision and ensure that what we do today is useful for future generations,” said Erwin van Doudewaard, Commercial Director at Hermann Sr.
“A vessel like the MPV 4916 is ideally suited to this goal, due to its adaptable, versatile exterior and environmentally advanced performance.”
