Artemis Technologies Launches Sweden’s First 100% Electric Pilot Boat
The Swedish Maritime Administration (SMA) has awarded marine technology company Artemis Technologies a contract to build a fully electric experimental vessel.
The project aligns with Sweden’s commitment to the Swedish Fossil Fuel Free Initiative and national climate goals.
The Artemis EF-12 will be the first vessel to operate in Nordic waters. It is designed to improve maritime safety and efficiency and contribute to Sweden’s goal of achieving net zero emissions in the maritime industry by 2045.
The pilot boat will provide essential pilotage services to ships traversing Sweden’s busy sea routes.
The electric pilot boat will be powered by Artemis Technologies’ unique eFoiler® system, a zero-emission system. The hydrofoil technology raises the hull above the water, reducing drag and improving energy consumption.
This feature provides a smoother, quieter ride and reduces the impact of wakes, protecting marine ecosystems, beaches, and other vessels in the area.
Dr. Ian Percy, CEO of Artemis Technologies, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative and said its eFoiler® technology represents the future of charging.
He stressed that the Artemis EF-12 experimental vessel will provide a reliable, efficient solution for critical offshore operations while being completely zero-emission.
