Cruise Ship Returns To Port Miami After Woman Falls Overboard Near Bahamas

The search was suspended Wednesday, a day after the 66-year-old passenger went overboard, authorities said.

A Taylor Swift-themed cruise ship docked at PortMiami after a 66-year-old woman fell overboard. “They couldn’t save her,” one passenger said.

Earlier this week, a Taylor Swift-themed cruise ship docked at PortMiami had a woman fall overboard.

The 66-year-old woman sank as the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Allure of the Seas was about 17 miles from Nassau, Bahamas, around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday.

As the ship docked, one passenger simply said to NBC6, “They couldn’t save her… You know, there’s nothing you can do. But it’s very heartbreaking, very devastating.”

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson said a search and rescue operation for the woman began immediately and they are working with local authorities.

The search was called off Wednesday, a day after she fell into the water, authorities said. The circumstances of her fall were not immediately disclosed.

“We are also offering our support and assistance to the guest’s family during this difficult time,” a company spokesperson said in a statement. “To respect the privacy of the guest’s family, we do not have any additional details to share.”

Hundreds of Swifties departed from Miami on Monday aboard the Allure of the Seas for a fan-driven cruise called “In my Cruiseera.”

Unrelated to Swift, the trip was organized by travel agents Jessica Malerman, Nicole Rivera, and Shelby Reyes of Marvelous Mouse Travels. According to the group’s website, the trio partnered with Royal Caribbean to host special events themed around Swift and Her Times. Events included a welcome cocktail party, karaoke, a friendship bracelet exchange, “Taylor trivia,” and a “nighttime dress-up theme.”

It was not immediately clear if the woman who fell into the sea was part of the group.

According to the cruise line, Allure of the Seas has 18 decks and can accommodate more than 6,800 guests. It is 360 meters long and first sailed in 2010.
