Currently, merchant seafaring is one of the most popular professions in this country. The competition to get into one of the few top maritime universities is becoming more intense every year. Every year, students who want to sail on the high seas gather in large numbers to take the IMUCET (Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test). This is the merchant navy exam that must be passed to enter our country’s maritime universities.

Merchant Navy Examination  

IMU-CET is becoming one of the most competitive entrance exams in our country. The number of applicants continues to increase every year. Social media touts the glamorous lifestyle of commercial naval officers. This has led many young candidates to pursue this field.

Currently, it is not that difficult to crack IMU-CET as it is much less competitive compared to other government entrance exams like IIT/JEE, NEET, and NDA. Getting a job at a good shipping company or getting into a top maritime university is not that easy. This blog has provided information about the Merchant Marine Examination Process.

Sponsorship Exam 

Candidates wishing to obtain a Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS), Graduate Marine Engineering (GME), or Electrician courses must pass a sponsorship exam from a shipping company before attending IMU-CET. You need to get a secure job. Completion of the course. Each carrier has its own requirements and criteria that must be met in order to participate in the sponsorship exam. These tests consist of three phases – 

Written Online Exam  

The first phase of all  Sponsorship Exams is the Written Online Test. This web-written test is conducted to check the basic knowledge of candidates. The MCQ test consists of questions from various subjects such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics,  English, General Aptitude, etc. The difficulty level of this online test varies also depending on the company. Most online tests take him an hour.

Personal Interview 

After passing the online test, candidates will be invited to a personal interview with the Master or Chief Engineer. The purpose of this interview is to test the candidate’s technical knowledge and also communication skills. This profession requires staff to deal with and interact with people of different nationalities, so it is very important that candidates are confident in their language and knowledge.

Medical Examination 

The final stage of the sponsorship test is the medical examination. This test is carried out to ensure that the selected candidate is medically fit to sail. Depending on the contract, seafarers are required to stay at sea for a period of approximately 6 to 9 months. Therefore, you must be physically and mentally fit to work at sea for such a long period of time. 

Medical equipment on board is very limited, and only basic first aid is sufficient. Therefore, seafarers must undergo a thorough medical examination before boarding the ship. This means potential health problems can be identified in advance. After passing all the above tests, the candidate will receive a provisional selection letter. The final selection will be based on the candidate’s performance in IMU-CET.

IMU CET (Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test)      

IMU CET, also known as (the Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test), is a standard Merchant Marine Entrance Examination conducted by the Indian Maritime University. Candidates will participate in the advising process and will also have the opportunity to study at  IMU locations and affiliated universities.  IMUCET exam is conducted twice a year. The December Merchant Navy exam is open to sponsors only and is currently only open to DNS courses. 

This event, held in May or June, is aimed at obtaining a Bachelor of Marine Engineering, a Bachelor of Maritime Science, and DNS. The number of applicants in December will be significantly lower than in May and June. Another thing about the Merchant Navy exam in December is that some universities are not participating in counseling as they were in May and June. Therefore, you should be careful whether you limit your choices or not. Also, there are fewer exam centers in December compared to June.

IMUCET’s Test Pattern

As per the test pattern, IMU CET 2022 consists of 6 sections of 200 MCQ questions carrying a total of 200 marks.

1. The Physics  Mathematics course consists of 50 questions in each subject.
2. There will be 25 questions in each subject: Chemistry, English, General Knowledge, and Aptitude. All questions in these sections must be answered within 3 hours or 180 minutes.
3. Each question contains four choices. A grade is given for each correct answer, and a negative grade is given for each incorrect answer.
4. IMUCET 2022 will be conducted in English.

IMU-CET Exam 2022 Syllabus

Similar to the eligibility criteria for the exam, the exam consists of topics that students are familiar with and can easily tackle. However, this exam is not easy to pass, and you may have to study hard. The IMU CET 2022 exam syllabus is similar to the prescribed syllabus for classes XI and  XII for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, GK, English, CBSE/ISE/State Board Skills. Students can refer to the prescribed syllabus for Classes XI and XII or textbooks for other national entrance exams such as JEE Main, JEE Advanced, and BITSAT. For the General Information and Aptitude section, candidates can follow letters like ‘Lucent General Knowledge’ and ‘RS Aggarwal Quantitative Aptitude’, respectively.

English

It is beneficial for students as it is an easy subject to assess. However, some sections in English are particularly noteworthy. Chemistry
