Qatar Energy Unveils Rex Tillerson LNG Vessel
Qatar Energy unveiled the Rex Tillerson vessel, marking the delivery of the first LNG vessel in its historic shipbuilding program. The Rex Tillerson vessel is named after ExxonMobil’s former Chairman and CEO in recognition of his ongoing achievements in the energy sector.
The traditional naming ceremony occurred at the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai, China.
“As the first vessel in our new LNG fleet, Rex Tillerson will undoubtedly play an important role in transporting LNG produced in Qatar to numerous receiving terminals worldwide.
Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of Qatar Energy, said: “We are honored to name our first vessel after Rex Tillerson in recognition of his long-standing achievements and as a symbol of a special friendship. ”
Rex Tillerson added: “I am deeply honored to have this wonderful ship named after me and I look forward to many years of safe service powering the world.”
In addition to Rex Tillerson, Qatar Energy celebrated the naming of its second ship: Umm Ghuwailina.
The two vessels are part of a contract of 12 conventional-sized LNG carriers with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding.
The two vessels are on long-term charter to Qatar Energy Trading (QET) and will be delivered before the contract delivery date.
