TotalEnergies has delivered its first 100% biofuel, known as B100, to Singapore, taking a major step forward in promoting low-carbon marine fuels.
On August 5, TotalEnergies Marine Fuels successfully delivered 700 tonnes of waste cooking oil methyl ester (UCOME) to Glovis Cosmos, Hyundai Glovis’s automotive business.
The delivery was made using the IMO II chemical tanker MAPLE, owned by Global Energy Singapore.
The biofuel, produced entirely from recycled cooking oil in Southeast Asia, has been certified by the International Standard for Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC).
TotalEnergies delivers the first 100% biofuel cargo for ships in Singapore.
This 100% biofuel delivery is noteworthy as it is TotalEnergies’ first full biofuel supply in Singapore, a significant step forward from previous operations, which involved blending up to 30% of biofuel with very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO).
UCOME biodiesel is a second-generation waste fuel that can reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 80% to 90%.
Louise Tricoire, senior vice president of aviation and marine fuels at TotalEnergies, said the deal demonstrates the company’s commitment to supporting the shipping industry’s decarbonization goals.
TotalEnergies has already supplied biofuel bunkers to France and the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) region.
The company estimates that annual marine biofuel demand in Singapore could double to nearly 1 million tonnes by 2025 from 2023 levels, compared to total biofuel demand of 51.8 million tonnes reported last year.
The delivery is part of TotalEnergies’ overall plan to develop low-carbon fuel supplies and help the marine industry transition to more sustainable fuel alternatives.
