Two ships were reportedly attacked in the Red Sea off Yemeni coast on Tuesday, but no damage was reported, the UK maritime agency said.
The UKMTO said a captain said his ship was attacked by an unmanned surface vessel (USV), which managed to disable it about 63 nautical miles (116 kilometers) southwest of the Yemeni port of Hodeidah.
Two Ships Report Explosions In Red Sea Off Yemen Coast
UKMTO and British maritime security firm Ambrey said the ship also reported two explosions nearby.
The Joint Maritime Information Centre (JMIC) for the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden later identified the ship as the Liberian-flagged crude oil tanker Delta Atlantica. It said there had been multiple attempts to launch attacks on the vessel.
Since November, Iran-aligned Houthi militants have launched attacks on international ships near Yemen in solidarity with Palestinians in the war between Israel and Hamas.
UKMTO also said another ship 97 nautical miles (179 km) northwest of Hodeidah reported an explosion near it.
JMIC said the second ship attacked was the Panama-flagged crude oil tanker Phoenix, adding that it was not attacked.
The vessels and crews in both incidents are safe and heading to their next port of call.
The Houthi attacks have led to retaliatory strikes by the United States and Britain and have caused disruptions to global trade as ship owners divert ships from the Red Sea and the Suez Canal to longer routes around the southern tip of Africa.
