The Pakistan Navy has commissioned the offshore patrol vessel (OPV) PNS Yamama in the port of Constanta, Romania.

According to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Public Relations of Pakistan Navy on Wednesday, Vice Admiral Muhammad Faisal Abbasi attended the ceremony as the chief guest and presented the traditional command pass to the Commander PNS Al Yamamah.

Also present at the event were Admiral Mariam Ciubtaru, Deputy Commander of the Romanian Navy Fleet, and Mr. Arshad Jan Pathan, Ambassador of Pakistan to Romania.

While addressing the ceremony, the Chief Guest stressed the importance of the project and emphasized the range of additional capabilities that PNS Yamama brings to the Pakistan Navy’s operational domain.

In addition, he said that these platforms are designed to enhance the overall scope of the Navy’s maritime operations.

Earlier this year, the Pakistan Navy inducted the first batch of the second batch of OPVs into its fleet on September 6, 2024.

Vice Admiral Mohammad Faisal Abbasi praised Damen Shipyards for its outstanding professionalism and dedication and expressed confidence in the prospects of future cooperation in providing advanced technologies to the Pakistan Navy.

PNS Yamama is the latest second batch OPV vessel built by Damen Shipyards in Galati, Romania.

It is a very versatile and flexible platform with medium size and payload. The ship is equipped with the latest electronic warfare weapons and anti-ship air defense capabilities. In addition, it is capable of carrying multi-role helicopters and can perform multiple missions for a long time independently or as part of a task force, thereby protecting Pakistan’s maritime interests.
