SIRE 2.0 enters industry-wide ‘beta-testing’ phase for inspections

The Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) has commenced ‘Phase 3’ of the transition to its digitalized Ship Inspection Report Programme (SIRE 2.00. This means all program users can now participate in trial SIRE 2.0 beta testing inspections.

In particular, OCIMF has been rolling out SIRE 2.0. It is the digitalized and enhanced version of the widely used tanker inspection programme SIRE. In a ‘phased approach’ over the past year. Phase 3, the roll-out’s industry-wide ‘beta-testing’ phase. It allows all vessel operators, programme recipients, and submitting companies to familiarise themselves fully with the new beta testing process under SIRE 2.0.

The Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) has recently notified its members and program users . The notification is regarding the upcoming commercial tanker inspection regime changes. However, the notification states that the current SIRE (VIQ7) inspection system will replace the new SIRE 2.0 inspection system in Phase 4. This means the current system will be withdrawn and no longer be used for tanker inspections.

OCIMF has also informed its members and program users that they will have only one opportunity to participate in SIRE 2.0 inspections. They will have to identify areas for improvement before the new system becomes the official inspection regime. This move aims to ensure that the transition from the current system to the new one is seamless and efficient. The notification is a timely reminder for tanker operators and other stakeholders to take advantage of this opportunity. Before the new regime comes into effect, make sure to thoroughly inspect their vessels and confirm that they meet the requirements.

SIRE 2.0 represents a seismic shift in how tanker inspections will be conducted. So we have taken a gradual approach to rolling out the new programme. Having completed end-to-end trial inspections with a sample group. We’ve reached a critical milestone, allowing all programme users to trial SIRE 2.0 inspections in Phase 3 of the roll-out.
