Viken JV tanker auctioned in Gibraltar to shake off Russian links - Merchant Navy Info - News

A Russian tanker auction has happened. An auction carried out in Gibraltar has resulted in the sale of a 100,000-tonne tanker. Moreover, its ownership structure made it subject to US sanctions in Russia.

If the vessel had not been auctioned off then like a lot of the other assets of the country this one too would have been lost to sanctions.
The 5-year-old vessel has been detained in Gibraltar since 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine. The Aurviken was partly owned by a Norwegian company and never traded in Russia, but one of its ultimate shareholders was subject to sanctions.

After a two-year lay-off in Gibraltar, it has finally been cleared for sale. According to Tradewinds News, the buyers are reportedly from Greece.
